Light & Wonder Takes Legal Action Against Zeroo Gravity Over Alleged Copyright Infringement

In a bold move, Light & Wonder has filed a lawsuit against Zeroo Gravity Games, accusing the company of copyright infringement in California.

The lawsuit, submitted to the US District Court for the Northern District of California in July, claims that Zeroo Gravity’s mobile slot game ‘3 Stuffed Swine’ is a “blatant knock-off” of Light & Wonder’s well-known ‘Rich Little Piggies: Meal Ticket’. According to Light & Wonder, Zeroo Gravity has allegedly mimicked various protectable elements from their game, including character designs, visual nuances, and distinctive gameplay.

The complaint firmly states: “Zeroo Gravity’s copycat game incorporates numerous protectable elements from Rich Little Piggies, infringing on Light & Wonder’s exclusive rights under the Copyright Act.”

Zeroo Gravity Accused of Copycatting Key Game Features

Central to the lawsuit is Light & Wonder’s claim that Zeroo Gravity replicated the unique design and appearance of the signature cartoon pig characters, integral to the game, alongside other elements such as background scenes and game icons.

Light & Wonder launched ‘Rich Little Piggies: Meal Ticket’ as a physical slot machine in October 2021, and later as a mobile game in April 2023. In contrast, Zeroo Gravity introduced ‘3 Stuffed Swine’ in April 2024 through its Jackpot Friends mobile app, an app that Light & Wonder describes as a mere imitation of its own Jackpot Party app.

The supplier further alleges that Zeroo Gravity’s infringement was deliberate, intending to capitalize on the artistic and commercial success already established by Rich Little Piggies. As a remedy, Light & Wonder is seeking damages, profits from the infringing game, and a permanent injunction to halt any further infringement by Zeroo Gravity.

Efforts to Resolve Without Litigation

Before resorting to legal action, Light & Wonder attempted to settle the dispute amicably by sending a cease-and-desist letter to Zeroo Gravity in June 2024. However, they reportedly received no response.

Light & Wonder Continues to Navigate Infringement Challenges

This case marks yet another legal front for Light & Wonder in the evolving US casino supplier landscape.

Earlier this week, the company’s stock took a 20% hit following a Nevada judge’s decision to issue an injunction against their Dragon Train game, responding to a lawsuit from Australian slots titan Aristocrat. Aristocrat accused Light & Wonder of copyright infringement and trade secret theft relating to Dragon Link.

Simultaneously, Light & Wonder is also defending against separate allegations from Evolution in Nevada. This lawsuit accuses the company of misappropriating confidential math files and payout structures for its RouletteX and PowerX games.
